With an academic accreditations of B. E. (Mechanical), M. Sc. (Engineering), Ph. D in Aerospace Engineering, currently Dr. S. N. Omkar is working as Chief Research Scientist at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) ,Department of Aerospace Engineering. He has also established Yoga and Biomechanics lab to conduct research in the field of Yoga. He has published several journal papers in the field of Yoga.
Dr.S.N.Omkar conducts regular Yoga classes, therapy classes, SURYA programs, yoga camps, Yoga courses, Yoga Research, more than 5000 Yoga programs in mass media like television and AIR, spiritual satsangs, guest lectures and has authored several Yoga related books and DVDs etc. SURYA (Student Upliftment and Rejuvenation through Yoga) is a unique program developed to promote Yoga for adolescent school children. Emphasis
is laid on the social discipline, personal adherences and practice of Surya Namaskaras that form a foundation for overall personality development in adolescences. Through this program he has reached more than 2,00,000 children.
Dr. S. N. Omkar has introduced, first time in the history, Yoga education in the sports field, particularly in Cricket. A number of Yoga camps have been conducted for the Indian Cricket Team, Ranaji Team, Indian Blind Cricket team and Indian Women’s cricket team.
He is also doing new series for students called “Postures 2 – Morals too” on YouTube. He is doing both in Kannada and English with two asanas or postures and a moral story, one for everyday. This is about the life of famous personalities not just from India, but across the globe.
He has been bestowed with Karnataka State Rajyotsava Award, Kempegowda award and titles of ‘Yogarathna’ ‘Apoorva Kalanidhi’, ‘Yoga Bhaskara’, ‘Yoga Rishi’ etc. He is also popularly known as ‘Drone Acharya’ for his contributions in the field of UAVs and Yoga.
